Teacher Tim Halman says there’s no better reward than seeing his students do well, and this past Wednesday, he was well rewarded.

Students from his political science class at Prince Andrew High School took part in a spirited simulation of question period. They tackled topics as far-ranging as Canadian sovereignty in the Arctic and missing aboriginal women, and spoke with passion, poise and knowledge.

The event also included a presentation to Halman who was recognized as Canada’s Everyday Political Citizen of the Year by Samara Canada, a non-profit organization dedicated to reconnecting citizens to politics.

He was nominated by Dartmouth – Cole Harbour Member of Parliament Robert Chisholm who praised Halman for inspiring many young Canadians to take a greater interest in democracy. Halman was chosen from hundreds of nominees by a panel of 17 judges.

“I love teaching, love this province and I love our country,” said Halman as he was presented an plaque and trophy by Samara co-founder Michael MacMillan “It’s a privilege to work with young people like these.”
